Engineered Slope Stabilization

At BC Foundations, we stabilize slopes that are moving, eroding, or at risk of failure, protecting the buildings, roads, and infrastructure above and below them. Sliding ground threatens foundations, driveways, retaining structures, and entire properties, and on the steep, variable terrain we work across British Columbia it is a common problem. Every solution we design begins with understanding why the ground is moving and ends with an engineered system built to hold it in place.

Retaining Walls, Soil Nails, and Tiebacks

For slopes that need active reinforcement, we design and install engineered retaining walls, soil nails, and tiebacks. Retaining walls hold back soil to protect structures and create stable, usable ground. Soil nails and tiebacks anchor into the solid ground behind a slope or excavation face, tying the unstable surface back to stable material and resisting the forces that would otherwise pull it down. We select and combine these systems to suit the height of the slope, the soil, and the surrounding structures.

Shoring for Excavations

Deep and steep-sided excavations need support to keep their walls standing and the surrounding ground stable while work goes on below. We design and install shoring systems that hold excavation faces in place, protect adjacent foundations and services, and keep the site safe for the crews working in it. Each shoring design accounts for the soil, the depth, the groundwater, and the loads bearing on the ground nearby.

Post-Wildfire Slope Assessments

After a wildfire, slopes that were stable can become hazards. Burned vegetation no longer holds the soil together, and the ground left behind is prone to erosion, debris flows, and shallow slides through the first heavy rains. We assess fire-affected slopes to identify the risk and, where stabilization is warranted, design the measures needed to protect the property below. It is the same geotechnical discipline we bring to every site, applied to ground that has just been through a fire.

Engineering and Installation Under One Roof

Because our engineering and construction are handled in-house, the design that is drawn is the design that gets built. When the ground reveals conditions different from what was expected, our engineers are on site to adjust the design and keep the work moving. That single point of responsibility keeps slope stabilization projects code-compliant and keeps the finished system matched to the ground it has to hold. From Kamloops and the Okanagan to the Fraser Valley, Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and the Sunshine Coast, we engineer the answer for challenging ground. Contact us today to discuss your site.
