Retaining Walls
Engineered retaining wall systems — from segmental block to cast-in-place concrete and gabion — built for each site's soil and slope.
Engineered Retaining Wall Systems
At BC Foundations, we design and construct retaining wall systems engineered for the specific soil, slope, and loading conditions of each site. A retaining wall has to do more than look the part. It has to account for the ground it holds back, the water moving through that ground, and the loads bearing down from above. We bring that engineering discipline to every wall we build, whether it is supporting a driveway, creating usable yard on a steep lot, or protecting a structure from a slope that wants to move.
When a Retaining Wall Is the Answer
Retaining walls do far more than level ground. They hold back soil to create buildable and usable space, protect foundations and structures from erosion, manage drainage and surface water, and stabilize slopes that would otherwise be at risk of failure. On the kind of terrain we work across British Columbia, where lots are steep, soils variable, and groundwater high, a properly engineered wall is often the difference between a site that works and one that does not.
Choosing the Right System
We are not tied to a single product or method. For each project we select the wall system that best fits the site, the retained height, the loads, and the budget, from manufactured segmental block to gabion construction and fully engineered cast-in-place concrete. Reinforcement such as geogrid is built into the design where it is needed, and every wall is detailed for the drainage and backfill conditions behind it, because what happens behind the wall determines how long it stands in front of it.
Engineering and Installation Under One Roof
Because our engineering and construction are handled in-house, the design that is drawn is the design that gets built. When conditions in the ground turn out differently than expected, our engineers are on site to adjust the design then and there. That single point of responsibility keeps retaining wall projects moving, keeps them code-compliant, and keeps the finished wall matched to the ground it has to hold.
Serving All of British Columbia
From Kamloops and the Okanagan to the Fraser Valley, Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and the Sunshine Coast, we design and construct retaining walls across British Columbia. Wherever the ground is challenging, we engineer the answer. Contact us today to discuss your project.
